Come ready to listen, move, and transform your dancing from steps to storytelling
Tessera Tidbits
Tessera Dance’s unique group improvisational dance builds on FCBD®Style’s movements and concepts. Strong technique is essential to our creative process. The name Tessera, or a mosaic tile, expresses our approach to developing movement vocabulary. Simple shapes in a mosaic create intricate combinations. We envision core movements as tiles in a mosaic, arranged and rearranged infinitely to create a unified whole. Instead of creating new movements, we explore the format’s boundless possibilities by applying new concepts and discovering unexpected ways to use existing ones. In this workshop, we’ll explore some of Tesseras signature movements and combinations

Fluidity in Orbit
Fluidity in Orbit! The Möön Dialect for FCBD Style - SLOW Submerge yourself in a world of elegance and fluidity with this workshop, where the tambourine becomes an extension of your being. Imagine the moon orbiting around you, moving with delicate and ethereal grace. It’s not just about grabbing the tambourine and executing movements; it’s about creating a deep connection between the prop and your body, transmitting a feeling of flow and sophistication to your audience. Each turn pauses in transition tells a story, involving your audience in a movement spell. Through specific combinations, you will discover how small details can make a big difference in your dance. This workshop is designed to explore the beauty of the FCBD style slow steps, some variations, and new movements, focusing on the importance of details and transitions that are unique to this format. Lunar Rhythm
Lunar Rhythm The Möön Dialect for FCBD Style - FAST In this workshop, we will bring what we learned in the first session to the next level, tackling the fast steps from the FCBD style vocabulary and variations. Here, musicality, coordination, and rhythm become the main characters. The fun in dancing with fast paced music becomes a unique experience, where energy and control are joined in every movement. We’ll explore the precision and dynamics of fast steps, learning how to maintain fluidity and connection with the music, all while synchronizing our movements with the speed and rhythm. Each fast step is an opportunity to challenge our coordination, improve our agility, and above all enjoy the emotion brought by the music. We will work to achieve a clean and precise execution, letting ourselves be carried away by the music’s energy. FCBD Intermediate/advanced level

We will also practice the combos from the other workshops, trying to improvise and create different combinations, considering musicality and transitions. Workshop 1 and 2 required. Getting Zilly with it
Many FCBD dancers give zills the side eye, because they have been imposed as a forced element, instead of presented as the musical instruments they actually are… well, the time has come to break out of this zil jail! We’ll get our brains and bodies into a playful mood, with exercises that will challenge our focus, creativity, and dexterity, and start creating new neural pathways. Using tempo variations in movements and sounds, we’ll come up with fun and short dance combinations with zill patterns created on the spot; we’ll explore beyond our current dance boundaries, and come out the other side with confidence and tools to keep moving forward in our quest for zil adventures… get ready for fumbling hands and a slightly scrambled brain!
Morphology of Sounds - Sagat Soul Fundamentals
In the same way the FCBD format is made up of steps and cues that become an unspoken language, this zil dialect is composed of different sound units, which combined form phrases called patterns. This added ingredient floats on top of the existing vocabulary, enhancing and highlighting the finger cymbals’ role in the style, and expanding on both the dancer’s and the zills’ range. We’ll review the basic patterns, add variations, and explore new combinations, understanding their compositional base and notation, and how they work with each other and with the dance steps as an added improvisational layer. Then, we’ll put some of the patterns on top of their corresponding steps, and practice our musicality, clarity of execution, and timing, in this magical conjunction of the dancer and musician in all of us.
